Reflective Statement Cit Sem1

Reflective Statement CIT Sem1 In the last two years I have had two major transitions, the first was when I transferred from industry into lecturing, finding myself in a college on the one side of the desk. The second was then being enrolled as a student and discovering myself on the other side of the desk. Both steps have taken me very much away from my comfort zone of getting production lines to work, to all the way back to my university days staring at a blank page trying to get my brain to work. The first session of the CIT course has gone very quickly with a surprising amount of material covered leaving me with a lot to take on board.Watching someone teach seemed to be a good place to begin, our first opportunity was to watch a video of a Vocational lesson taking place with level 2 and level 3 students, a similar setup to my Engineering TFS class. Reflecting on this lesson, some of the strategies I could take from it were the way the lesson was structured with clear instructions at the start, a variety of activities, using the more experienced students to help the first year students, motivating them and consolidating what they have learned.Peer observation was a good opportunity to see how an experienced teacher within my own college and subject structured their lesson and the techniques they used, it also made me appreciate how difficult it is to formally reflect on someone else’s teaching. The Gardner’s theory of various learning styles of visual, kinaesthetic and auditory showed me that not all activities are going to work for all students, hence the need for variety with in the lesson to stimulate the learner. The introduction to the LLUK and the Domain A professional values and practice was probably the biggest step in the course, where you are asked to plan the learning by creating schemes of work and detailed lesson plans. â€Å"Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail†. This was then broken down further in the Domain D where the individual ne eds of the students being taught had to be considered. This was put into practice, first in a group activity, were a scheme of work was designed and lesson plan extracted from it. This gave a good opportunity to coordinate or efforts as a group and presents our work to the rest of the class. The second opportunity to do this and receive feed back was during the first class observation which allowed us show progression within our teaching and start putting in practice what had been learned so far. Teachers and the Law, was a useful reminder of the responsibility we have as teacher within the class room, that we have a duty of care towards the learner, especially when they are under 18. Not only is it a legal obligation, but it is set out as a contractual duty of care also covered in the LLUK in Domain A and our signed contract of employment. The most inspirational part of the course to date would be the Behaviour Management presentation, which served to confront the teacher’s fe ar of the disruptive class or impossible child. Developing positive relationships with the students seems to be at the heart of this topic, which in some cases could be time consuming and hard work, but inevitably rewarding. Key skills in achieving good classroom management are rewarding the student with constructive praise, giving clear instruction and introducing novel stimuli and humour to create a stress free environment. In addition to the presentation on Behaviour management, I have been able to sign up to the Behaviour Needs mini course and receive some very useful materials and tools that have help with my class room management to try an make it a more stimulating learning experience. Domain BK1. 2 Probably the most nerve wrecking experience of the first session, more so than the lesson observation was the Micro Teaching activity. Looking back, it was actually enjoyable and worthwhile when you could see yourself in the playback, and identify the type of teacher you are, again laid out in Domain BK2. 6 which ask you to evaluate your own practice. This gives me the opportunity not just to suit lessons to fit the learner but also my own teaching style. The exercise made me really think of what goes into the different stages of a lesson, i. e. the BEM principle. â€Å"The view is that we learn more in the first 12 minutes and the last 8 minutes of a lesson† (Duckett. I and Tatarkowski. M; 2005,27), taking that into consideration we should have 3 BEM’s in a typical lesson. The function of a good opening is â€Å"To induce in participants a state of readiness appropriate to the task to follow, through establishing rapport, arousing motivation and gaining attention† ( Hargie.O and Dickson. D 2004,262). Setting out the objectives, displaying them for the students to see, so they know what the expectations of the lesson will be has now become a fundamental part of my teaching. Before we looked into Blooms taxonomy, I thought there were just q uestions and answers, now I am aware of effective questioning on so many different levels. In the past I have used questioning considerably within my lesson, but would like to develop this skill so that it can be more â€Å"effective†. Conclusion.Experiencing teaching for only one year, with no formal training, was a huge challenge, but one which I felt I dealt with to best of my abilities. The course so far, has enhanced my teaching abilities, which should make me a more reflective teacher willing to try new strategies and learning from want can go wrong in a class and maximising on what went right. Determining Achievements in the Choice of School

Every parent wants what is best for their child. Though parents do not have control over everything in their child's development, education is one they do control. A person's education is one of the most important factors in determining whether or not they will become a productive member of society. Because education is so important, what kind of education is best? Whether or not a public or private school is best may be an issue worth addressing. The debate over which is better is a battle that has gone on since private schools were first introduced as an alternative. It seems most people are of the opinion that private schools are superior; the issue is simply if it is worth the money. However, this may not be the case. Therefore, how does one gauge the superiority of a school? This very difficult question has no easy answers. The most common and maybe the only way that researchers can rate and measure the effectiveness of a school is by measuring achievement. The American Heritage Dictionary seems to define achievement as â€Å"something that has been accomplished successfully, especially by means of exertion, skill, practice, or perseverance. This efinition is not exactly what researchers are speaking of when they refer to achievement. Though they all seem to define it slightly different, achievement is refered to as an improvement in overall academic excellence that did not exist before or outside the classroom. Many researchers used achievement tests and SAT scores in longitudinal studies for this measure. These reports seem to suggest that public schools seem to perform at equal levels with private schools. But are SAT scores and achievement tests all that are important to a school and what it can provide for children? This question cannot be addressed with these The fact that I was raised in a private environment seems to suggest that I may not be better off than my private counterparts. Since a young age, I have attended private schools. From Kindergarten through all four years of high school, I have been in home schooling with my other brothers and sisters. I was raised on the idea that private schools are better than public ones. My parents and most of my peers still believe this. I might still think this also but with much less fervor. After high school, I then went on to Meramac, my first public school. It was here that I learned, in that large and diverse environment, and from talking to my friends now at public colleges, that maybe the average public and private system are not so different. I am not saying that high school and college are comparable, they are not. Maybe just the idea that private schools provide a superior education is false. I seem to be getting the same if not better education where I am now, at Meramac, than I would at some private college. I am afraid to ask how much my parents have spent on my education. Would I be I the same place today had I gone to public schools, only having a more However, one must keep in mind that the issue over weather private schools are superior to public ones cannot be calculated for just myself or any other individual. The facts and data stated here are averages, not necessarily the best and most accurate information for all children. Also, not all public schools are the same and not all private schools are the same. Again, the results here are supposed to be averages of each. Many schools are not even addressed. Public magnet schools, independent schools, and special education schools, are some examples. Another thing to bear in mind is that there are many more public schools than here are private ones, thus skewing the data some. With that I mind, I have found six journals written on, or pertaining to, the subject of achievement and whether private or public does a better job of promoting it. However, all of these researchers did not just pick a hundred public students and a hundred private ones, test them, and then see who scored higher. Many variables must be taken into account to make the two groups as equal as possible. This logical step included the factoring out of variables such as economic backgrounds, gender, age, race, IQ, and others. By liminating or lessening these characteristics and others like them, more equivalent groups can be made, with a smaller chance of non school influences affecting score results. Before the mid 1970's, the issue of the better type of school had not been seriously addressed. This may be because most students enrolled in private schools were there primarily for religious reasons. This is why most private schools are Catholic. The Coleman report, released a before the 1980, began the battle that still continues to this day. Their conclusion stated that, after all the data was collected, and all the important ariables accounted for, private schools produce better achievement than their public counterparts. Shortly after this research became public, numerous studies have been documented as stating that their conclusion was false. Some of those studies shall be stated here. One of the first reports that confronted the Coleman report was released in 1981 by authors Goldberger and Cain. This study did nothing but address the validity of the report by Coleman, Hoffer, and Kilgore, which was a document that contained 233 pages + appendices. They found that â€Å"the method and nterpretations employed fall below the minimum standards of acceptability for social-scientific research†. Goldberger and Cain do not only disagree with the results that Coleman and his associates released but attack them with a fair amount of vemenance. Their research methods, or, their execution of the methods, are replete with flaws. The presentation of their style are one-sided — pro-private. It is as if they decided to write a brief for the proposition that society shift to the subsidization of private schools and away from the subsidization of public schools. Goldberger and Cain therefore, are not saying anything referring to which type of school is better. They are simply stating that the results shown by the Coleman report are not accurate, and therefore, there is simply no evidence suggesting that private is better. However, in 1983, Alexander and Pallas not only discredited the Coleman report but also did a study of their own. Though a little more discrete in their judgments, they again find the Coleman results flawed. They also address the fact that because most private schools are catholic, it would be wrong to generalize the private school data set by including all private schools. Instead they address the issue as a public-Catholic one. Attempting to correct the errors in the Coleman report, they do a study of their own. Using the NLS and HSB studies, they find that there is not a substantial difference in the results and that private schools are not better. They do however, point out their shortcomings; that â€Å"SAT scores are only available for those students who elected to sit for the test† and that the data are only sampled of sophomores and Another study that furthered the argument that public schools are just as good as private ones were one put out by Sassenreth and her colleagues. In 1983 they used a study that was already in progress, SOMPA, to analyze the correlation between the two. Though the study was extremely brief, by comparing IQ's of students already in the survey, they found that â€Å". . . the public schools are able to hold their own, despite having to enroll an student (good or bad) in their residential area and having to offer a wider range of courses†. With 49 public school students and 49 private school students matched by their IQ and with all outside variables taken into account, â€Å"private and public schooling has (on the average) about the same nfluence on academic achievement†. However they are also the only study reviewed which infer that the decision to select a private school might be for other reasons than achievement. Some of the more recent data no longer refers to the Coleman report, suggesting that it is either outdated or has been successfully discredited. In 1991 Gibbons and Bickel use three SAT data sets to compare public to private. Though SAT tests â€Å"were originally designed to measure aptitude rather than achievement† the authors feel that they are just as good a measuring tool as any. They again find that, once accounting or certain variables, â€Å"public high schools appear to perform better than private high schools, at least with Also in 1991 Rock and associates address the issue of trying to ascertain what promotes achievement. Though it does not specifically address the conflict of private versus public schools, it does seem to provide useful information concerning some of the variables addressed by previous researchers and why they were factored out. Before the following variables are accounted for, * Students from private independent schools perform considerably better on all test than students from Students in private independent schools are more likely than public or Catholic school students to be proficient at higher level math problem solving (private independent: 63 percent, public: 18 percent, Catholic: * Students from Catholic schools have higher mean scores I all tested areas (except higher-level math problem solving) then do public school students. Age, race and ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, also play a significant role in a students performance. Their data seems to suggest however, that the differences in achievement among public schools and rivate schools seem to stem from variables that are not school related. But what about the things that researchers cannot prove. Many parents, especially those whose children are or have been in private schools, would argue that achievement is only part of the big picture. Lynn Stevens, a public school teacher, has three daughters. Though they all began in public schools, two of them attended private high school. Mrs. Stevens feels that her children received a better academic background in a private school but, due to the variety and larger size of a public school, she feels that they might have suffered. She feels that they might have been â€Å"more involved in a larger variety of things† in a public school. Jennifer and Meredith Stevens, Mrs. Stevens' older daughters, attended Marist, a high pressure, high achievement, private school. Therefore, because it is so competitive, Mrs. Stevens feels it inappropriate to call Marist an â€Å"average† private school,. However, upon discussion of the advantage of social diversity of a public school, Jennifer added that she â€Å"received a more positive influence at Marist† than she would have at Roswell. Jennifer also senses from her youngest sister, now attending public high chool, that there is almost pressure to not do well. Mrs. Stevens also feels that public schools, especially at the elementary level, cannot meet the demands of all the different ability levels present in the large classes. Private schools on the other hand, though not able to help each child as much as possible, can perform a much better job of this with their smaller class sizes. One argument against private schools is that they do not provide a â€Å"real world† type of atmosphere, and that this is a serious disadvantage when the child grows up. Mrs. Stevens feels that this does not necessarily matter. However, because of Amanda's greater opportunity to achieve amongst her peers at public school, Mrs. Stevens would not put her youngest daughter in Marist. Another reason, though not addressed in the interview, for her sending her daughters to private school is due to the religious influence that it provides, which is unavailable in public schools. Basically, it depends on the student, and what will be best for him or her. It seems that for the average student, private schools do not provide better achievement than do public. But what does achievement have to do with the big picture? Will higher SAT and achievement scores roduce a happier, more well rounded, positive, and more self confident youth? Probably not. Every child is unique and has their own strengths and weaknesses. The same things hold true with schools. Some private schools are poor just as many public schools are good. The decision whether private schools are worth the money is another issue. Again, it depends on one's own situation. Therefore, though achievement may be part of the decision making process, it should only be a small concern in a sea of other ones. It depends upon the child as to which concerns are large and which ones are small.

A New Work Ethic Essay

The following questions are to help us analyze and maybe even understand where business in America is heading, especially with a capitalist society. 1. Describe how typical the attitudes that Sheehy reports appear to be in work environments you have experienced. The attitude described by James Sheehy unfortunately is not uncommon among young employees on these days, therefore is very likely that all of us at some point have come across an employee that has poor work ethics. I have worked in a call center environment for several years and have experienced how my younger coworkers, some of them still attending college, think of their job as a transitional one; they feel they don’t have to excel in their tasks even though they have the ability to do a better performance, because they work in customer service. The problem with younger generations I believe it starts at home and school; parents usually want to give their children what they didn’t have growing up but they’re failing in teaching them appreciation and value f the things they receive, and that sends a message that they deserve something, instead of having to earn something; and at school they learn they can pass their classes by pulling enough extra credit even if they did poor in their tests and assignments, contributing to that get-away-with-it mentality that Sheehy talks about. 2. Explain the implications of the work ethics Sheehy describes for the future of American busi ness. Elizabeth Vallance (1995) reflects that business ethics â€Å"involves articulating a coherent set of values for a business and trying to set decision making within the context of these values† (p. ), but the values described by Sheehy are not the ideal ones that would lead a business to success, subsequently, there must be a change in those values, or a change in the way Americans do business, acknowledging that there is a new business ethics, understanding and adapting to the new generations, but never ignoring the moral values that characterize our society and that have built the business system which is the core of the capital system now. Shaw (2010) advices that as long as these new generations have the â€Å"freedom to influence the nature of their jobs and pursue their lifestyles,† they would be willing to work hard (p. 156), so ignoring the attitude that Sheehy’s co-workers have is not the solution to the problem, instead, delegating responsibility, getting the employees more involved in the decision making process, and accepting positive feedbacks are excellent ways to avoid business failure in the future. Unquestionably there are several factors that contribute to a business failure other than attitude, but definitely this aspect of business will keep our capital society afloat. 3. Explain whether it is more reasonable to expect workers, especially in a capitalist society, to be more devoted to their jobs, more concerned with quality and customer service, than Sheehy’s coworkers were. Adam Smith’s concept of the Invisible Hand explains that human beings are acquisitive creatures and self-motivated, in an economic sense, to gain personal advantage; if we believe this concept is the core of capitalism, we should think it is reasonable to expect workers to be devoted to their jobs. However our reality shows a decline in the commitment people have towards their jobs for many reasons, the one I believe is the most important is the focus on the Short Term, explained by Shaw (2010, p. 54), which tends to make workers â€Å"unimaginative, inflexible, and ultimately uncompetitive,† thinking of ways on how to make big amounts of money in short time without much effort, by investing, by inventing, by becoming an artist, a sport star, etc. unrealistically thinking they can succeed without much effort. Customer service as we know it, might be changing in a near future, we are getting more used to a self-service mentality and that’s why many young people do n’t think is a priority to show devotion on that area. 4. Explain the reasoning behind employee theft. Employee theft is explained by a mix of circumstances that employees experience within our capitalist society. People have profit motive, some employees believe they enjoy certain advantages of working for a specific company, let’s say an employee thinks he or she is entitled to take home office supplies that cost the company a lot of money, only because he knows is within the company’s budget and they feel they aren’t compensated well enough so they can supplement their salaries by stealing. Also most employees that steal do it because they believe they can get away with it, or they have seen other employees doing it without having any consequences, therefore it’s a spread feeling among co-workers that it’s ok to take things from the company when it certainly isn’t. Some other employees that steal do it because they are experiencing truly economic problems and they are not responsible enough to solve them in another way, but stealing from the company to make up for their losses. Whichever the case, is very important to pay attention to this growing tendency, because businesses do lose considerable amount of money from employee theft, and this can affect the future of American business. 5. Explain ways the culture of our capitalists society encourages attitudes like those Sheehy describes . Capitalism have encouraged a lot of people to better themselves by acquiring a good education; is it necessary to have a better education today in order to have a customer service job than the one required many years ago for the same type of position. Consequently it takes more effort and more money invested in education for these young people to find better jobs; this can create the feeling that all the efforts are not worth unless you have a nice, big paying job, without having to start from scratch. Also younger generations have grown up with a lot technological help, compared to older generations, they have the Internet, computers, cell phones, entertaining gadgets, etc. that make tasks easier and the use of those is strongly encouraged by our capitalist society. As a result there is a pressure to have this technology in order to succeed, a pressure of affording the lifestyle that is â€Å"accepted† by their circle. United States is one of the very few countries were people can become rich in a very short timeframe, whether is by an business, artistic, or sports skill; some have invested at the right time and have become successful, and this mentality has stuck on the young people’s head, to the point that anyone could become rich overnight, if they only know how to play the right cards, not necessarily having to work a lifetime to build their capital.

How Can a School's Pastoral Structure Support Pupil Achievement Essay

How Can a School's Pastoral Structure Support Pupil Achievement - Essay Example This essay stresses that the investigation was concerned with the Curriculum Guidance stipulation that themes be inculcated across the confines of the academic subjects that typically characterise an intrinsic feature of the secondary curricula. The conclusion was that themes that had no noteworthy incidence in academics prior to the launching of the National Curriculum had continued generally to be short on resources or standing, and the preponderance of the schools took few reasonable measures to try to appraise or introduce cross-curricular connections apart from pre-established activities formerly operative in relation to individual subjects. The absence of a clear criteria for review of material related to the themes was recognized as the basic obstacle. This paper makes a conclusion that from one perspective the National Curriculum could be understood as integrating pastoral care into the actual fabric of the teaching profession, requiring that educators themselves be comprehensively trained in pastoral care techniques. In recent years the educational system appears to have grown significantly in a responsiveness to the susceptibility of young people in the academic process. The call for a student-based focus seeks to address all aspects of a multifaceted learning environment and honour a pastoral mandate to provide a network of community support to strengthen the student's sense of personal responsibility for academic success.

Future Technology Consultants Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Future Technology Consultants - Essay Example Such an introduction in the corporate thinkpiece is designed to create global buzz about the achievements of Future Technology Consultants and, essentially, turn the scientific world on its proverbial ear. This piece will identify the theories of teleportation, including those proposed by Eric W. Davis of Warp Drive Metrics, on research grants from the Air Force Research Laboratory, who describes the Casimir Effect and Gravitationally Squeezed Vacuum Energy that make up the foundation of creating negative energy in a vacuum cylinder (Davis, 2004). Such studies identify the theoretical and scientifically-measured phenomenon which occurs as a result of manipulating particles in controlled environments. This particular study identifies the different calculations necessary to create this phenomenon, including reference to Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity. It is grounded in tangible scientific research and data from actual experimentation in the pursuit of transporting matte r and particles.   NYU also describes previous research conducted on the ability of two distant objects to remain â€Å"entangled† with one another despite their distance, based on scientific calculations which seem to project instant transmission of information from point a to point b at a speed faster than light (cs.nyu.edu, 2002). This article provides the foundation of Quantum Complexity, so as to describe how this is theoretically and scientifically possible.   Cnn.com (2007) describes another piece, not necessarily befitting this thinkpiece, that involves somewhat of an opinion-based article attempting to describe the mechanics behind teleportation.

Sustainable Construction Method Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

Sustainable Construction Method - Coursework Example Much of this is now controlled by legislation and pollution of air, land and sea within the European Union and many Western Nations is now reducing. The loss of control of manufacturing processes therefore has a considerable environmental impact. 2. Resource Use The construction industry is the major consumer of resources of all industries. 3. Habitat Destruction While the three greatest and most imminent threats to the survival of our civilization are global warming, peak oil (the growing energy gap between supply and demand) and resource depletion, habitat destruction can have a more immediate and disastrous effect on certain localized areas and species. Sometimes these can also have a global impact (for example the impact of the deforestation of the Amazon rain forests). . 4. Waste There are increasing regulations about waste disposal from construction and many products, even common products like gypsum plasterboard and mineral wool insulation are now labeled as hazardous and requ ire special disposal. In addition there are many projects to find new uses for waste construction materials. However here, as with waste disposal, the less processed a material is, and the less hazardous, the easier re-use, recycling or healthy disposal (for example through composting) will be. Many essential materials are now in short supply. 5. Climate change The main base performance criteria for energy efficient buildings all concern the thermal performance of the building shell where most of the CO2 gains can be most easily made. The fact is that if we are serious about climate change then we need to stop playing games with technologies which do not deliver real CO2 savings. The real challenge in this area is... The intention of this study is the environmental impact assessment as a â€Å"process of identifying, predicting, evaluating and mitigating the biophysical, social, and other relevant effects of development proposals prior to major decisions being taken and commitments made†. An environmental impact assessment is an assessment of the possible positive or negative impact that a proposed project may have on the environment, together consisting of the natural, social and economic aspects. The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision makers consider the ensuing environmental impacts when deciding whether to proceed with a project. The construction process and building use not only consume the most energy of all sectors and create the most CO2 emissions, they also create the most waste, use most non-energy related resources, and are responsible for the most pollution. Materials such as copper, which is largely mined in South America where whole mountains have been taken down and landscapes altered in the search for ever more rare resources. The environmental aspect can be looked as: emissions into the air, water spills, waste generation, soil pollution, resource consumption, local impacts, and impacts associated with transportation, effects on biodiversity and emergency situations and incidents. This particular proposal has been prepared by consulting engineers done on the behalf of their client. The aim of the project is to present a preliminary assessment findings pertaining to `energy options that can be exploited by client.

Alcohol Related Violence Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Alcohol Related Violence - Essay Example Most of the violence take place when the venues close or when the known figureheads move out of the bar. According to the research, lighting and security staff, taxi ranks and availability of public means of transport are a precursor to liquor related violence. The study recommends frequent revision of licensing terms for setting up liquor venues to reduce the possibility of injury and potential harm. The environment within which the bar needs special consideration since they contribute largely to liquor related violence. Proven evidence shows that change in alcohol price directly affects alcohol consumption. Increased taxation can effectively reduce liquor related violence through reduction of access to alcohol. High taxation of alcohol encourages consumers to turn to drinks with low alcoholic levels of or avoid alcohol. The reduction in alcohol uptake translates to a decrease in alcohol-related violence. The tax earned from increased alcohol taxation can in turn be used to educate the public on the dangers of alcohol as well as treat alcohol-related problems. An increase in alcohol tax will reduce alcohol related violence. Evidence shows that the best way to reduce alcohol related violence involves the local community in addressing the liquor related violence. The community in conjunction with the government and the businessmen can work together towards changing the drinking habits of the people. The empowered community can set code of conducts at the beer dens and agree on violence minimization practices. The community can also come up with measures such as frequent identification at liquor places to know the clients and also spearhead responsible drinking. Research suggests that the government should fund and provide them with the necessary support. Evidence shows that short-term interventions from the community are effective in reducing alcohol-related violence and should be supported. Local

Analysis Of Film Sunrise - Essay Example Summary and Plot analysis of Sunrise (1927)The Man leaves his wife after he hears the woman from the city whistling. His wife is left alone with memories of their once deep love relationship. The man and the woman from the city are in a love affair under the moon. The woman wants the man to sell his farm and follow her back to the society. She also suggests that the man drowns his wife. However, the man violently refuses. However, the woman convinces the man. The unsuspecting wife is taken for a boat ride where she is to be drowned. She later becomes suspicious about the trip while they are in the lake. The man is unable to drown his wife. He goes back to the shore, where the wife flees to the shore. The wife then flees and the man tries to follow her. The wife from the farm then goes to the city where she is overwhelmed with the city life and her husband is close behind her. The man then gives the woman flowers and other gifts and she is then convinced to stop crying. They reconcile and while in the city, they see a bride who gets married in a church. The man asks for forgiveness, after which they go back to the farmhouse. A twist in the plot of the film is when the woman and the man travel back to their home; a storm causes their boat to sink. The man saves the wife but he wakes up convinced that his wife has drowned. He asks the town people to help search for her body They do not succeed and when he gets back to their house, the woman of the city reappears thinking that the plan had succeeded. The man turns violent on the woman from the city. He tries to kill her before he is told that his wife survived. He is happy as he kisses her and lets the woman of the city get out of the town. Depiction of the City Woman as trangressive, problematic and having threatening presences in Sunrise (1927) F. W. Munrau’s depiction of women in the silent film, Sunrise is an approach of representing women in rural and city settings. The city woman is depicted as being pr oblematic, trangressive and even having threatening presences. The film pits the city woman against the rural woman. Victorian melodrama usually depicts the woman as either a vamp or a virgin. Munroe borrows this expression in his silent film, whereby the rural woman is represented as a ‘virgin’; the city woman is the ‘Vamp’. The city woman is problematic in the context of Sunrise (1927). Mary Livingstone plays a demanding woman. She demands that the farm man sells his farm. This is a challenge to the man who depends on the farm as his source of living. He also asks the man to kill his wife so that she can take her place. The man finds it a problem top sell his farm and go to the city. He also finds it hard to drown his wife. However, the power of the city woman is reflected in her seductive prowess. She easily convinces the man to go ahead with the plan. The city woman manages to bring problems to a small rural town. She causes problems amongst the wife an d the man. Their marriage and love was blissful and

Sexual Abuse of Children Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Sexual Abuse of Children - Research Paper Example In the US only, the prevalence rate is at 10.1% and the figure has remained relatively constant since the early 1990s. On the older population, over 20% of females and 10% of males in America have suffered child abuse at their young age (Marchand Wolfe 133). These statistics indicate that the problem of child sexual abuse is an issue that requires more focus and a multi-dimensional approach to resolve. The reason why I chose this topic is to develop a better understanding of the reasons behind the prevalence of the problem of child sexual abuse. Statistics provide figures that suggest that the people who are close to the children form the largest portion of the perpetrators. Statistics reveal that 90% of the perpetrators of child sexual abuse are those close to the children, 30% comprising of family members and 60% comprising of other acquaintances such as friends. In choosing this topic, I seek to unveil the myth behind the statistical figures that show that close member of the community perpetrates this crime (Marie 1-11). In my research, I also intend to find out why most parents end up abusing their loved one instead of assuming the role of care providers. In doing so, I intend to provide a grounded platform from where the war against child sex abuse can be launched. This way, it is possible to provide a solution to a problem that has persisted long enough in the society and e fforts to resolve the problem have become unsuccessful. Before my research, I expected that majority of the perpetrators of child sexual abuses are strangers who are unknown to the victims. With this note, I felt that one way to solve the problem would be to increase family protection and to enhance better parental care. Surprisingly, statistics show that the people close to the children are likely to inflict this crime on the young ones.

Rise of China Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5000 words

Rise of China - Essay Example inence is often bandied about as a goal of national development and is expressed frequently in the speeches of Chinese leaders and documents such as CCP National Congress Reports and Government Work Reports. In addition, foreigners often worry that China’s rapid economic development will present a threat to the stability of the current world order,† Adding that, â€Å"Because of this, other countries, especially a United States increasingly anxious about losing its preeminence, are often even more outspoken than Chinese pundits in proclaiming the imminent rise of a Chinese pole on the global power-map. According to the 2006 report of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, 61 percent of US citizens believe that within the next 20 years, Chinese GDP will surpass US GDP. Yet interestingly, only 30 percent of Chinese citizens hold this view. The â€Å"China threat theory† has proliferated across the globe, while Chinese people remain bewildered as to why their country is suddenly the cause for so much international concern,† (Yiwei p.1). With a surging Chinese economic present, as well as the potential for the future, many in the international community have in fact been keeping a close eye for that each country is keenly aware that any kind of economic insurgence by China can have very real consequences for everyone else, whether good or bad is left to be determined on an individual basis after viewing the facts. As for the economic history of China, â€Å"The Peoples Republic of China has the second largest economy in the world after the US with a GDP of nearly $ 7 trillion (2007) when measured on a purchasing power parity (PPP) basis. In November 2007, it became the third largest in the world after the US and Japan with a nominal GDP of US$3.42 trillion (2007) when measured in exchange-rate terms.[5] China has been the fastest-growing major nation for the past quarter of a century with an average annual GDP growth rate above 10%.[6] Chinas per capita income has

Digital Video Broadcasting Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Digital Video Broadcasting - Term Paper Example Evolution of Television:- European and North American inventors pioneered the TV. Television is a hybrid word coming from the Greek letter ‘ Tele’ meaning far, and Latin word ‘visio’ meaning sight. 1) Monochrome TVs: - These early generation televisions were mostly based on electrochemical systems. The screen had a small motor with a spinning disc and a neon lamp which gave a reddish orange picture comparable in size to a business card (Udelson). The system continued to evolve with the inception of a line system to improve the results of the TV. In 1937 the 405 line monochrome system, known then as the ‘HD’, was selected as the UK standard of television. By 1950, most European countries had the 625 scanning lines, 25 frame per second, TV system as standard. Meanwhile, plenty of experimentation was taking place in the USA, however, the Federal communications commission was not satisfied with the quality of the systems and work on development of t he system continued. In 1942, the FCC endorsed the efforts of the National television systems committee and established a standard of 525 scanning lines with 60 frames per second. (Pritchard and Gibson) 2) The advent of Color TV: - During the 1940s, various color television systems were proposed and demonstrated in the United States. The first color television was developed in the early 1950s by the national television systems committee and submitted to the federal communication commission in 1953. Color TV was not successful in the United States until a decade of its introduction. Few color TVs were sold because they were expensive and there were not many programs televised in color. Time magazine even called color TV as ‘the most resounding industrial flop of 1956’. Slowly but surely, however, color TV started to thrive when color programs started to show up in abundance.

Ggr252 Notes Essay Example for Free

Ggr252 Notes Essay To gain a better understanding of the retail and commercial activity in the Toronto area, two different types of retail will be evaluated in the following report. The character, market orientation and location of a retail space all play crucial role in contributing to the success of the business. All three aspects of the retail spheres will be carefully assessed in order to make direct comparisons between the two types of retail businesses. The two retail systems that will be contrasted includes the ancillary retail system in downtown Toronto and the Retail Strip on Spadina, south of Baldwin. Part A – Ancillary Retail (First Canadian Place) The ancillary retail system in downtown Toronto is one of the most unique retail systems in the world. It is an underground shopping center that connects all the major banks and towers in the core of the city. The specific area that we investigate is called â€Å"First Canadian Place† and it is located on King Bay St. This geographic region is one of the most densely engaged regions in all of Canada and this is because of the large skyscrapers that are located on top of this retail center. Its primary customers are upper-middle class workers that are working in the surrounding banks and institutions. Most of the consumers are not wearing jackets and this suggests that they were able to access this center without going outdoors. This is a significant advantage because people are more willing to go to areas that are easily accessible. The retail center is easily accessible by many different types of transportation. There are two subway stations that are located within this area and there are also buses on the street level. As well, it is very accessible by foot because the retail center is connected to many other different shopping centers in the core of Toronto. There are many different types of stores in this retail center but they are all focused on â€Å"white collars†. Most of the customers are workers in large firms and they want quick access to different types of stores. This is why there is a large amount of fast-food/food court stores that allow workers to have their lunch quickly and efficiently. The busiest time of the day for this retail center is during lunch hour and rush hours because it is very convenient for all the workers to access this center. A 15 minute pedestrian count during lunch hours (around 1:30pm) indicated that approximately 1993 people access this ancillary retail system. This system  is in private property because it is under many large skyscrapers which are owned by private firms. This system is not very easy to navigate because of the complex connections of different shopping centers. Part B – Spadina, South of Baldwin (China Town) The retail strip on Spadina, south of Baldwin (known as China Town) is a completely different type of retail center. This retail is located outside and it is very easy to navigate since the arrangement of the retail stores is not complex. The streetcar track on Spadina helps people to identify the directions more easily (North ↔ South). This area is accessible by public transportation as a result of the frequent availability of streetcars and subway. There are also parking spots on either side of the road that can accommodate for cars. The area surrounding this retail strip consists of schools, university, and small houses. There are a wide variety of stores within the retail strip, offering customers many selections to choose from. Most of the retail spaces consist of restaurants, fashion and accessories stores, and family health services. However, there are also other services being offered, such as banking services, furthermore, there are meat shop and supermarket. This retail space is considered to be public as the entire business strip is not managed or controlled as a whole by any rules and regulations. And most evidently, the retail strip itself is located on a public street. It is possible that the city planners may have designed the street and the retail area to accommodate for the needs of the surrounding residential area. However, the actual stores and their specific styles and characteristics that each retail business offers are mainly unplanned (there might be some planned aspects). In the pedestrian count that was conducted during lunch time (around 1:30pm), a total of 327 pedestrians were counted during the 15-minute count. Chinatown is geared toward the market segment of low to mid-income individuals. Thus, most of the pedestrians are dressed in casual wear and jackets (Note: stores are located outside – winter period). The majority of consumers in this retail strip are Asians who speak Cantonese or mandarin and large portion of them are seniors. Part C – Compare and Contrast After careful analysis of the above two retail spaces, many similarities and differences can be drawn. First and foremost, both business entities consist of multiple retail stores that offer a vast variety of goods and services. This allows customers to have and opportunity to be exposed to a great selection of goods and services, and also creates convenience for the shoppers. In considering the physical location and layout of the two retail spaces, it is evident that both are located where a large amount of traffic can be found. People arrive at these areas by cars, transit (streetcars in China Town/buses in First Canadian Place, subway, cars for both), and walk, etc. This brings more customers to the businesses, and also helps accommodate for large amounts of traffic, which may be created as a result of it. Therefore, in terms of accessibility, both locations are very convenient to customers everywhere because of public access. The Ancillary Retail System is located in one of the most important commercial centers in Canada. There is a large population working above this system and this allows the system to have many customers during the weekdays. The disadvantage is that workers do not work during weekends would cause the system to have less customers, or the stores in the system might not be even opened during the weekends. The major disadvantage to the retail strip is that since the strip is located outdoors, many people would not be willing to shop outdoors in the cold winter. It is possible that the number of customers in the summer would be greater than the numbers in the winter, but it is more likely that customers would prefer the PATH since the system would have the air conditioning turned on in the summer. In both of the retail areas, we can see their different layouts. In First Canadian Place, most of the food services are centralized in the food court, whereas in the retail strip there are no spe cific patterns or layouts. This might be because it is a public space and the retail center is unplanned. The two different types of retail vary in their composition. The PATH system has more chaining retails than those in the retail strip. The stores’ degree of speciality in the strip is higher, this is because the stores are independent and owned by individuals that has the freedom to decorate the store and sell as they wish, without rules and regulations. Through the evidence from my observations, I believe that the retail strip  is less managed than the Ancillary System, because of the nature of the area. The retail strip is located on a public road, the city planners at most are doing their jobs setting out this area as retail but not as much as planning each store and how many stores of different types for this strip to be successful. The Ancillary Retail though, is a planned center, the land is owned as private property, and therefore, the stores run under rules and regulations. Before the stores can open in this planned center, marketing would have been done to see if th e center can accommodate another such shop in there. I believe that everything that goes in the PATH is carefully monitored and managed by a department under its private owner. Although own is private and one is public, one is planned and one is unplanned, despite these differences, they also have many similarities that kept them both running; their styles and selections attract different kinds of customers. The different specialty stores on the retail strip would attract customers that are looking for uniqueness and those that are looking for Oriental-style cuisines, and the stores in the Ancillary Retail would provide customer with convenience to their everyday needs and quick services such as the fast food services to customers who work nearby. Overall, these two different retail areas have their own qualities that attract customers, and everyday there are changes in the market and changes are made in those types of retail everywhere to suit out changing needs.

The company is strictly against child labor and has a view that children are not meant to be exploited for gaining profits. This can also be seen as a marketing strategy as the main market of the company is children below 15 years of age and by being strict on child labor the company wants to give a message to its customers that it really cares for them and is willing to do any possible attempt to stop any kind of evil done on them. Moreover on part of being a chocolate company it is important to take care of the hygiene and the conditions in which the product is manufactured as unhygienic products could lead to bad health and also lead to loss of customers and reputation to the company. Aal Mir Trading Co. is one of those few companies which have been able to remain undisputed over the span of more than 30 years which reflects its fair trade policies. The company has pioneered in getting rid of various social issues of the world and has been praised for its steps taken worldwide. The companys meetings with the world health organization act as a firm confirmation to the steps taken by the company in order to reduce social evils and exploitation of labor worldwide. Appendices: Opposition to child labor. Maintenance of Hygienic conditions during production. Attempts to Increase general awareness among the consumers. Respect for international trade and personnel. Opposition of low wages. Results of Policies implemented by Aal Mir Trading Company: As a result of the fair trade policies implemented by the company there are various figures that support its success. In the last few years the annual growth rate of chocolate consumption in the region has been around 10% which directly reflects the increase in profit of the company as it is the leading producer of chocolates in the region. Today more than 25% of the people in the region consider chocolate as a main snack which is far greater than the ratio of 2.5% which existed 15 years ago. The results are even visible in the biscuit industry which is one of the areas of business of the company has witnessed a growth of around 17% in the last few years. Is the company adapting to fair trade policies only as a marketing tool? The main motive behind any company is to earn maximum possible profit within the laws of the region in which they operate. The motive of Aal Mir Trading Co. is also to earn maximum profit from its business but the policies implemented by the company in order to gain this profit are quite noble and are based on social welfare. Although seeing from a point of view we may find that these policies are helping the company to gain higher profits but seeing the level at which the company is performing it is not a necessity for the company to work for social causes as the people already are aware of the brand and the products produced by the company. In its thirty years of working the company has been able to make a good reputation in the market and has made good profits over the last few years. In the initial stages of the working of the company it could be made out the company might have gained larger profits based on the basis of the policies that it had implemented and in the initial sta ges this could have been seen as a policy to take the people of the region into confidence but since the company is in existence for over 30 years the company today does not need to take the consumers into confidence as the company already has enough customers that are confident about the working of the company and have faith in the products of the company but at this stage the steps might be interpreted as a measure to maintain the goodwill of the company and keep the people assured of the policies of the company. Another important fact that must be kept in mind while analyzing this aspect is that in order to follow such fair trade policies the company still has to put in extra cost which might just go wasted as the company already has a huge customer base and activities of social good now has a minimal effect in increasing the customer base of the company. Hence on analyzing the trade policies it is found that although the company may be earning a higher profit based on response o f users on these policies but the credit of doing such activities must not be taken away from the company that is putting an effort for the community as the company is fulfilling its social requirements hence we can say that Aal Mirs adaptation to fair trade policies is not just a marketing policy but it is an attempt by the company to improve the society which in turn is giving higher profits to the company. Conclusion: After going through the policies of the company and the profits that it is earning and also after examining the impact of these policies on the company as well as the people of the region various conclusions can be made out which have been stated in this paragraph. The company has developed into a leading producer of chocolates as a result of its trade policies and has also earned the stature of an extremely ethical company that fulfills its social responsibilities. This sense of responsibility of the company towards the society is a result of the companys fair trade policies. The companys contributions have also been highly recognized by the society and even bigger organizations like the world health organization. The company has earned its spot at the top and is expected to stay there as the companys policies as well as quality and cost of products are bound to attract a large number of consumers towards the company. Hence it can be concluded from the above report that the good pol icies of the company that includes the fare trade policy have helped the company to establish a customer base and then its products and marketing strategies have helped it to affix the companys position at the top amongst all the companies of the region thus resulting in the current scenario where the company is at the top of the market and is still developing its position. There are some vital explanations behind Iceland making arrangements for human resource arranging. Some of those motivations to be talked about at this point. Firstly Iceland dependably attempts to make the connecting between associations procedure to human resource arranging. Iceland likewise requirements for making arrangements for evaluating momentum HR, deciding the interest for work, anticipating the future work supply, finding or looking the required representatives, coordinating the request and supply for work. Human resource arranging helps Iceland to deal with its human resource adequately and effectively. 2.2 (Michael Armstrong Armstrongs Handbook on Human Resources Management) For human resource recruitment there are some standard stages that can be received by an association. Those stages are practically normal for medium and substantial size of associations. Be that as it may, for accomplishing or benefiting upper hands as far as human resource numerous associations are currently honing at those phases in to some degree diverse ways. Iceland is exceptionally notable and popular brand in the business world as far as its cooperative attitude regarding representative determination process and worker and boss relationship. For this Iceland needs to receive some recruitment stages viably and proficiently. Two noteworthy phases of Iceland recruitment of workers are recruiting sources and meeting the association. Firstly Iceland should attempt to keep up by its recruiting sources by inside source, worker referrals and suggestions, outside hunts with notice, representative office, school, college, spontaneous candidates. Whats more, meeting the association incorporates resumes gathering, some last comments, viva voice lastly the recruitment is happened. 2.3 Recruitment and choice process is one of the real issues of human resource administration. A definitive achievement or disappointment significantly relies on upon recruitment and determination procedure of any association. Recruitment and determination process differs from association to association and nation to nation. A few contrasts are seen between the recruitment and determination procedure of Iceland and Tesco, Sainsburys. From the foundation of Iceland it has been realized that Iceland take after a reasonable and non-segregation for recruitment and choice process. Corporate administrations are completely trailed by it. Adjacent to that it attempt to choose the dynamic, keen, informative individuals. Iceland recruitment and determination handle begins with ad and finishes with useful or demo session. The huge contrasts are seen amongst Iceland and three others specified above in recruitment and choice process regarding inside determination, contracting individuals for conclusi ve choice process and so forth. (SHRM, 2016) 2.4 On the off chance that we attempt to assess the viability of the recruitment and determination methods in above chosen associations we can state that the recruitment and choice procedure of Iceland is exceptionally viable contrasted with others. The procedure or system took after by Iceland guarantees the equivalent representative open doors. Reasonable and required representatives can be chosen by that way. One the other hand for other three associations there may inward determination prepare that can come about howl the desire execution level. Iceland never inclines toward nepotism regarding recruitment and choice process that guarantees the viability and proficiency as far as exhibitions. In any case, there might be some issue emerge since a couple minute perception by test and viva may not generally function admirably. In such manner inward recruitment and determination prepare at times function admirably since by this procedure restorative recruitment is conceivable at a more noteworthy degree. (Todays news, 2016) 3.1 Regularly there is a solid relationship between reward framework and inspiration. Inspiration can originate from numerous ways. Suitable reward framework is one of them. From the above contextual investigation it has been seen that inborn needs comes about the solid inspiration for the workers. The inborn needs are the requirements of the individual needs. Individual, for the most part, have various key mental needs including the need to feel that worker can accomplish something great, they should be a part of gathering, the requirement for regard and consolation from others. Those necessities may originate from some specific issue like advancement, settling on choice, adding to a group, doing assortment of undertakings etc. Iceland is such an association, to the point that has a solid duty to address these issues by occupation pivot, worker engagement, representative inclusion in basic leadership that dependably make a solid connection amongst representative and boss. 3.2 There is a cozy relationship between employment or execution assessment and installment. Be that as it may, installment methodology may differ association to association and nation to nation over the world. In a few associations employment or execution assessment is just a single criteria to decide the installment. Also, it is valid for little retail association for the most extreme cases. Be that as it may, if there should arise an occurrence of extensive size based enterprise different variables with employment assessment might be considered as vital issue to decide the installment or pay. In light of the situation of Iceland it has been watched that, are three strategies for occupation assessment are seen like requesting technique, grouping strategy and point strategy. Requesting technique otherwise called positioning strategy for the most part comprised by both administration and worker agents organizing work from most astounding to least request. (SHRM, 2016) 3.3 As indicated by the specialists of human resources administration, four sorts of reward framework are there honed by the associations. They are continuously inborn versus outward reward framework, money related versus non-monetary reward framework, work put issue: work improvement, execution based versus participation based reward system. The thought process and objective of every association is not same. So one reward framework is successful for one association. It differs association to association. In the event that we attempt to survey the reward arrangement of Iceland it can be seen that Iceland is taking after the natural reward framework that is exceptionally powerful for this association. The workers of this association is such a great amount of satisfied to this reward framework. The qualities or elements of inborn reward framework are extremely useful for its representatives as this reward framework incorporates cooperation in basic leadership, more noteworthy occupation flexibility and watchfulness, obligation, all the more intriguing work, self-awareness openings, differing qualities of exercises. These all components are exceptionally useful to propel and hold the workers of this association. (SHRM, 2016) 3.4 Observing workers and execution administration is one of the key calculates human resources administration. Without legitimate observing and execution administration a firm or association cant see a definitive achievement in future. When we attempt to look at the strategies embraced by Iceland to screen representatives execution a few inquiries might be extremely useful to analyze it. Those inquiries ought to be (1) Is the strategy performed well? (2) Are there any productive techniques more compelling than that of it? (3) How really it functions admirably? Finding every one of the solutions from the handy situation we ought to observe to Iceland way to deal with do it. We can see that Iceland is extremely willing to draw in its workers in basic leadership, to employment advancement and so on. The motivations behind Iceland are being accomplished thusly. Presently we can think if this association takes other techniques to screen its representatives then what will be the genuine situation? The answer can be exceptionally critical. So one might say that the strategy took after by Iceland is working well for it. ([emailprotected] snippet, 2017) 4.1 (The Managers Guide to HR- Max Muller) As I have said there are some particular purposes for end of work like end of business operations, minimizing the work cost, out of line method for representatives, work debate and so on. Faisals termination at the Chicken Master was truly justified as he was paying no attention to the work. His absence during working hours, inefficiency in work was the main reasons. He used to ignore his duties while spending time on calls with her wife or daughter. He was an irresponsible worker. As he was also caught in pornography and other non-acceptable stuff, Bob did the right thing by cancelling his contract. Bob was very much justified in doing so as he warned Faisal a lot of times about his issues but Faisal paid no heed to it. When we see the explanations behind discontinuance of work with uncommon motivations to the associations it is to specify that the suspension rate of work of the Chicken Master is low. For the most extreme cases suspension of work in an organization happens for misrepresentation and most elevated truancy rate of representatives, money related aversion in early phases of its operations. Other than that suspension of work is found in associations in view of exceptionally poor execution as far as client dealings, client relationship keeping up. Among the reasons specified above money related abhorrence is striking exceptionally for the greater part of the associations. Late world financial emergency is the appropriate case for it. 4.2 Work exit system is the following stride of end of business. It fluctuates association to association and nation to nation. In any case, the privileges of workers must to be guaranteed by every kind of association. The business leave method framework ought to be reasonable and particular. As indicated by the work right association must guarantee the reasonable method for business leave technique. Business leave methodology of any organization should be exceptionally excellent. Firstly it should advise the representative formally about suspension. Also it should offers time to representative to set his or her contention against the progression taken by association. In the event that representative is not ready to put his or her contention in his or her support, association should formally eliminate him or her at long last. At that point the association should satisfy all the necessity because of the worker. And a discontinuance card should sent to the address of representative. (The balance, 2017) 4.3 (The Managers Guide to HR- Max Muller) Keeping up the administrative structure at the season of discontinuance of work is extremely basic for partnerships of the business world. Every single association must need to take after the terms and states of suspension and leave strategies of work. When we consider the end course of action of work in the Chicken Master it is seen that the suspension technique of the Chicken Master match every one of the prerequisites of legitimate issue. The Chicken Master never attempt to abuse any terms and conditions got from lawful system. From the foundation of the Chicken Master it is realized that, the Chicken Master never attempted to skirt any articles and arrangement of work law and work rights as far as end methods. From the above exchange we can finish up such a route, to the point that since human resources administration is a constantly rehearsing issue so it assumes a critical part on associations general execution. On the off chance that an association needs to increase full profit by human resources administration it ought to take after every one of the areas of HRM. In a little retail association there are might be a couple of people are selected for its every day operations and exhibitions. Here an imperious method of the proprietor is watched. Iceland never inclines toward nepotism as far as enlistment and choice process that guarantees the viability and proficiency as far as exhibitions. From the foundation of Iceland it is realized that, Iceland never attempted to avoid any articles and arrangement of work law and work rights as far as end procedures. Iceland itself has legitimate counseling board that dependably bargain the lawful based issues and gives the reasonable and particular consultancy to make the essential strides. Suspension of work is an extremely touchy issue for an association in present day and focused universe of discontinuance. In spite of the fact that discontinuance is not expected any more from an association but rather still this situation is happening in a few associations. End can be happened by the end of any association or minimizing the work costs or any debating or unjustifiable method for means. Suspension of business is more touchy issue due to work law and work rights. Executing examinations, when gone up against a steady start, goad the employees. In an organization, there are a couple issues on which level headed discussion may rise between the employees and the organizations. You can state conflicts are basically unavoidable. In such a circumstance, it is the human resource division which goes about as an expert and judge to manage those issues compellingly. They first hear the grievances of the specialists. By then they consider sensible responses for manage them. By the days end, they make propitious move and keep things from leaving hands. The obligation of setting up incredible publicizing lies with the HRM in a manner of speaking. They mastermind gatherings, courses and distinctive expert parties for the association remembering the true objective to create organization with various business divisions. As a less than dependable rule, the HR division expects a dynamic part in setting up the business and publicizing suspects the organization too. Any organization, without a proper setup for HRM will without a doubt experience the evil impacts of huge issues while managing its standard activities. Subsequently, today, associations must put an extensive measure of effort and essentialness into setting up a strong and effective HRM. An Essay on Man :: Alexander Pope Religion Essays

An Essay on Man Alexander Pope's An Essay on Man is an attempt to vindicate, as Milton had attempted to justify, the ways of God to man. Both attempt to explain God to man, but come up with different conclusions. Milton states that man can overcome God's design through faith and decency. In contrast, Pope remarks that man must accept what life gives him without trying to change his fate. Milton seeks to "justify the ways of God to men" (Paradise Lost, 1.26) through example. Paradise Lost focuses on the fall of man and the consequences thereof. After the fall of man, Adam and Eve must endure their punishments, and achieve redemption. They can no longer live within the confines of Eden; but through faith and conviction they will persevere. God gives Adam and Eve free will and the use of reason. Although they choose poorly and are punished with the pains and sufferings of humanity, God allows Adam and Eve to live; though not as they were accustomed to in Paradise. They must live life as we know it; with its weaknesses, yearnings, inevitable defeats; but with the knowledge that they can overcome "To leave this Paradise, but shalt posses / A Paradise within thee, happier far" (Paradise Lost, 12.586-587). Similar to Milton, Pope tries to "vindicate the ways of God to man" (An Essay on Man, p. 2264.16), however he derives a different conclusion. Pope believes that "In pride, in reasoning pride, our error lies" (An Essay on Man, p. 2266.123). He sets out to demonstrate that no matter how imperfect and disturbingly evil the universe may appear; it is nonetheless a work of God and must be accepted "Then say not man's imperfect, Heaven in fault; / Say rather, man's as perfect as he ought" (An Essay on Man, p. 2265.69-70). It seems imperfect to us only because our perceptions are limited by our moral and intellectual capacity. His conclusion is "And, spite of pride, in erring reason's spite, / One truth is clear: Whatever is, is RIGHT" (An Essay on Man, p. 2270.291 - 292) that we must learn to accept our positions in the universe, in which we can, lead happy and virtuous lives.

Higher Education and Society :: Learning School Teaching Essays

Higher Education and Society Attending public schools as a child, I remember learning the basic skills on how to add and subtract, read, and write. These basic skills are necessary in order to function in our society and work force in the United States. As we all know each child learns differently, some learn faster than others and some slower than others. Our public schools have become overcrowded and we do not have enough teachers to fit the needs of each student. Some students get left behind and are not learning the skills needed to move on to the next level. What these students are not learning they can learn in higher education such as a college or university. In this report, I would like to express the importance of a higher education. I will use the works of John Henry Newman, Jon Spayde and Mike Rose, all three writers believe in having an educated society. Our students’ needs are changing, there are a growing number of immigrants with children coming to the United States from all over the world. They bring with them the language and culture of their country. The age in which they arrive to the United States determines how well they learn English and what skills they will need to acquire to become productive in our society. The task of teaching our children the basic skills is becoming harder and harder each day, making it harder for our education system to achieve their goals. There are a high number of students graduating from high school who does not have the skills needed to meet the needs of the work force in our society. A higher level of learning is needed to make our society literate. The relationship between college and university are influential in our society. To have an educated society in the United States brings a safe and peaceful environment to live in. Society is defined as "a group of people with a common culture or a way of life. A group of people who unite to share a common interest" (Holt, Rinehart and Winston 678). An educated society also avoids social problems such as poverty, gangs, drugs and health related sickness. Most of all, having an educated society helps our country’s economy. For example, a citizen that acquires a college degree earns respect and can get a good job that pays well.
